First impression of London

It's been nearly a week since I arrived in London on Saturday. Glad to be finally off the plane, watching movies can only entertain you for so long. For anyone curious I took an overnight transit in Seoul, South Korea. The hotel I was put in was actually really good, big room and a lot of facilities. Seoul weather was WARM, totally not what I was expecting. I took a walk around the city at night and in the morning, and I made the mistake of walking around in shorts and thongs. Seems like everyone there dresses up when walking around, lots of people in business suit and leather shoes. I can see people glancing down at my feet as I strolled by.

Anyway, finally arrived in London the next day at 6pm London time. Noticed that my bathroom isn't so much a bathroom as it is just a shower place wih a curtain in an indentation on the wall, room is also smaller than I thought it'd be. Too tired to care then. I had this great idea of joining the welcome party at 8.30pm that night despite not having a decent sleep for nearly 20 hours - big mistake. Left the party early as I was feeling too lethargic and ended up taking 1 hour to get home because I didn't know the way back to college (as opposed to 20 mins if you know your way). Oh, just in case anyone is curious what my room looks like:

I'll upload the rest of the pics up on Facebook.

The day after I head down the local grocery store to buy essentials. Turned out I forgot to buy salt, sugar, dishwashing liquid so I end up having to make multiple trips. Luckily the local grocery store is fairly close by. I was lucky enough to be in a good area (Notting Hill for those familiar with London). Chinese market close-by means I can quickly get essentials such as soy sauce, chilli, mi goreng, and bok choy.

After a week now I've finally settled into the new lifestyle. Been sight-seeing a bit and started uni which I'll blog about next time. I'm starting to get used to the rain (although the past 3 days have actually been sunny), the sea of buildings, exorbitantly expensive dining, and explaining to poms that we in Australia don't drink Fosters on tap.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to head down Oxford Circus to find All Souls Church. My first step to find a home-church here in London.

New blog

OK, I'm giving blogging a go now. As Ill be going to UK pretty soon, hopefully I'll remember to update this thing later. Never really blogged aside from putting a few Facebook pictures up. BTW when I was picking my blog name I found out svensbox was already taken. Then I remembered a 'nickname' some people (namely zef) have called me, 'sven-o' and I improvised into svenosbox.

So in about 4 days I'll be off to the UK. Definitely starting to hustle a bit more getting everything up and packed. Strangely enough even though I am looking forward to it, the excitement hasn't built up that much yet. Probably will hit me all at once when I step into the airport though!

I want to mention that the farewell party I had on Friday was a blast. Everyone at EMP rocks (and you guys are probably the majority of readers here anyway!!). Thanks to Max and Viv who must have pulled out their hairs trying to organize everyone together, and for everyone who turns up and made the party happen! The video Frank compiled was awesome ass, definitely will be re-watching that a few more times before Friday. Will miss you guys when I'm over at pommy-land.

So back to packing for me! stuff are slowly getting into the suitcase which is a good thing. hopefully I won't forget too many things so I don't have to panic on thursday midnight! I promise to try and blog regularly as a pom.
